In order to connect to the servers booted on the cloud secondary appliance via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) or VNC (Virtual Network Computing), it is necessary to connect to the Infrascale VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) via VPN (Virtual private network) first.
This article is a step-by-step guide on how to configure and use a VPN to access the Infrascale cloud instance. This topic is covered using Shrew Soft VPN Client for Windows as an example, if you use another VPN client, or another operating system, the routine may differ somewhat.

How to configure VPN access to Infrascale VPC
Step 1 - Obtaining VPN Access credentials
Contact Infrascale Support to request VPN access to your VPC which hosts your remote CFA (Cloud Failover Appliance).
After the Infrascale team set up the VPN on your VPC, you should receive an email with VPN configuration details:
- VPC hostname and/or IP address
- PSK (Pre-shared key)

- Password
Step 2 - Downloading and Installing VPN Client Application
You can download Shrew Soft VPN Client following this link. Please install it.
Step 3 - Adding and configuring a VPN connection
Open the VPN client (VPN Access Manager), and click Add (or Edit › Add).
The VPN Site Configuration dialog box opens.
On the General tab, in the Host Name or IP Address box, enter the host name you received in the email.
On the Authentication tab:
In the Authentication Method drop-down list, select Mutual PSK + XAuth.
On the Credentials subtab, in the Pre Shared Key box, enter the pre-shared key you received in the email.
On the Phase 1 tab, in the Exchange Type drop-down list, select main.
Click Save to apply changes.
How to connect via VPN to Infrascale Cloud
In case VPN connection was configured before and saved in VPN Access Manager, you can use it without any additional changes.
Select the configuration, and then click Connect.
The VPN Connect dialog box opens.
On the Connect tab:
In the Username box, enter the VPN username you received in the email.
In the Password box, enter the VPN password you received in the email.
Click Connect to establish the VPN connection.
The VPN client will show tunnel opened
after it establishes the connection successfully.
