How to back up a running VM on the DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud

Introduction

Running backup jobs for VMs (Virtual Machines) booted on the DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud is an essential part of the failback process. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to back up a running VM on the DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud.

Prerequisites

  1. The VM is running on a DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud.

Instructions

1) Access the DR Appliance that has the running VM by clicking on Manage DR Appliance in the Infrascale Dashboard for the corresponding DR Run.

This will open a new tab on your web browser, redirecting you to the DR Appliance Management Console Jobs tab.

2) Click on Boot > Active. All of the VMs booted on this DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud will be listed on this page.

3) Power off the VM.

Click Yes to confirm.

4) Once the VM is turned off, the status of the VM will change to Stopped. Click Create Backup Job.

Notes
Create Backup Job is available only when the VM is stopped.

Click Yes to confirm.

5) The backup job for the VM will be initiated. You can track the progress in the Backup Message column.

Wait for the backup to complete.

6) Once the backup job has been completed, it will start replication of this job to the Cloud Storage. You can track the progress by going to Replication > Replicated Jobs.

If the progress column shows 100%, then the job was replicated successfully.

This job will be visible on Cloud > Google Cloud Storage.
