How to boot a backup job on the DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud

Introduction

Once a DR Appliance is booted and configured in the Hybrid Cloud, it is possible to boot replicated backup jobs as VMs (Virtual Machines) in the Hybrid Cloud for Disaster Recovery purposes. This article is a step-by-step guide on how to boot a backup job as a VM on the DR Appliance in the Hybrid Cloud.

Prerequisites

  1. DR Run has been initiated on the Infrascale Dashboard.
  2. DR Appliance provisioned and configured in the Hybrid Cloud.
  3. Backup jobs replicated to the Hybrid Cloud.

Instructions

1) Access the DR Appliance by clicking on Manage DR Appliance in the Infrascale Dashboard for the corresponding DR Run.

This will open a new tab on your web browser, redirecting you to the DR Appliance Management Console Jobs tab.

Notes
This tab does not list any jobs as of now, this behavior is expected.

2) Download the backup job from the Hybrid Cloud to the DR Appliance. This step is required only for backups jobs that were running via Hyper-V integration.

Notes
If you have VMware based or Agent based backups, skip this step. The DR Appliance will be able to access VMware and Agent based backups directly from the Hybrid Cloud Storage.

Select the Cloud tab. You will see a list of backup jobs that were replicated to the Google Cloud Storage.

Select the backup job you wish to boot and click Pull Back From Cloud.

Wait until this job appears in the Jobs tab.

4) Select the Boot tab. Select the desired client and click Boot.

5) Select the backup job to boot and click Next.

6) Specify the Name, Memory, Processor, Network and other settings for the VM, and click Boot.

It will take some time to boot the VM on the DR Appliance. You can track the progress of the boot on the Boot > Active tab. Once you initiate the boot process the DR Appliance will start preparation of the VM.

Once the VM is prepared, it will go through the standard OS boot process. You can check the status of the boot in the Preview column.

Once the VM is booted and ready, you will see the standard OS Desktop screenshot in the Preview column.

Info
Once booted, the VM will be reachable for users connected via VPN. To configure VPN access to the Hybrid Cloud, please follow this article.
