How to resolve the backup error 'AlphaVSS.x64.dll'

Introduction

A DR Image backup job on a Windows system may fail with the following error message:

Could not load file or assembly 'AlphaVSS.x64.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found.

Resolution

The error mentioned above is the result of the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable missing from the system. Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable must be installed on the machine in question in order to run backups. 

To resolve the error, download and install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio from Microsoft's website:

The version (x86 or x64) of this package should be the same as the backup agent. For example, if you installed the x64 version of the backup agent, then install the x64 version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
