How to elevate the Online Backup and Recovery Manager to run as a system service
Introduction
After you have configured a backup using the Online Backup and Recovery Manager (OBRM), you can elevate the permissions of the program to be run as a system service. This will allow backup jobs to always run when the machine is either sleeping or not logged on. Additionally, this will give the software more permissions and often prevent access denied errors.
Prerequisites
- A backup is already configured in the Online Backup and Recovery Manager
- The option Back up automatically without user intervention is enabled in the backup configuration.
Instructions
1. Go to the Windows Task Scheduler. This can be found by going to the Control Panel, selecting Administrative Tools and then selecting Task Scheduler.
2. Click on Task Scheduler Library on the left hand side and look for the task "Online Backup and Recovery Manager - Username" The username will match your backup account username. Right click on this task and go to Properties.
3. Inside the properties, click on Change User or Group.
4. In the field Enter the object name to select, type in "System" and the click on Check Names. System will now have an underline. Once you have confirmed this, click on OK.
5. The user account running the task will now show as "NT Authority\SYSTEM" click on OK to finalize the changes.
The task will update with the new permissions and Task manager can be safely closed.
These steps will need to be repeated if any changes are made to the backup set or the scheduling on the Online Backup and Recovery Manager.
